AUTUMN STAPLE

I'm back! I know it's been a few months since I last wrote a blog post, and I don't really have any great excuse for it to be honest. One thing though, was that I felt completely un-inspired by Summer style this year, which meant it was hard to find the motivation to put together fashion content over the Summer months because I just didn't really love any outfits. I also started a new job in August which was very exciting, but it did take up a lot of time at first getting settled in etc. Then come September I went on an amazing holiday with 13 of my uni friends which was total relaxation and sooo much fun.

It's now October (which I can't actually believe is already here) and we're fully getting into Autumn/Winter which is my absolute favourite season for fashion. I feel more inspired than ever with style at the moment and I love it when the season changes and we can start to layer up again and get back into coats and boots - my faves. But today I wanted to share with you my current Autumn staple which is 'the jumper dress' and reasons why I think I'm going to have so many in my wardrobe this year.

1) Effortless.
When it starts getting colder (especially in the UK), you have to start thinking about layering up. Sometimes you just can't be bothered to wear lots of different items of clothing, so a jumper dress is the perfect option. It's one item that you can just throw on and you're basically good to go. I usually wear mine with a t-shirt underneath to keep me warmer, and my over the knee boots to keep my legs warm. It's an instant outfit and is so comfortable and cosy all at the same time.

2) Warmth.
If you're like me and love wearing dresses, but you also really feel the cold, then this is the perfect solution. Jumper dresses are super cosy - especially the one I'm wearing here because it's a really thick knit. It keeps me so warm but still gives me that feminine feeling of wearing a dress. It's a way to add a bit more of a flattering feel to your knitwear collection by keeping those legs out! I don't know why, but if my top half is warm then I don't really feel the cold as much on my legs.

3) Layering.
A jumper dress is such a great layering piece. There are lots of different styles on the highstreet at the moment and they are so versatile. I would layer this one I'm wearing with a faux fur gilet over the top or a long duster jacket as the roll neck detail would still show at the top. If I was wearing a thinner round neck jumper dress, I would maybe put another thin roll neck underneath to add a bit of contrast. You can even add a belt with them to cinch it in at the waist if you prefer them more fitted.

It's definitely an item that I will be wearing so much this season and I'm already on the hunt for some more!
Let me know what you're current favourite Autumn piece is!

KEEPING IT CASUAL

Like most girls, I do love getting dressed up for parties or events, but most of the time you will find me in a t-shirt, jeans and a pair of trainers day-to-day. I'm a real casual girl at heart, and as much as it's nice to make the effort and get glammed up from time to time, I'm all about feeling comfortable and having to put minimal effort into an outfit - literally just a 'get up and go' type of look.

CURRENT FAVOURITES

I've done an updated favourites video on my channel of all the things I'm currently loving so far this season - style and beauty-wise!

Hope you enjoy - I'm actually really impressed with myself that I'm uploading more regularly now on my channel, and hoping this actually sticks this time! Excited to get more content up and will be sharing it on here with you as well. (However, I am still semi-awkward so bare with *lol*).

'THAT'S SO LAST SEASON'

I used to have the mindset that every season I needed to buy new clothes. Summer would come around and I would think 'I've got no Summer clothes', and then end up buying more dresses, bikini's, skirts etc that I would then forget about again next year.

BODY CONFIDENCE

Summer is the season where everyone starts to think about their body confidence. It's the time of year where skirts get shorter, swimwear is out, and generally more skin is on show (and unfortunately we can't get away with not shaving our legs for weeks)...but how does this leave us feeling? Both boys and girls have issues with body confidence, and I don't think anyone is 100% happy with how they look, but that's okay because we're all human and there are always positive changes which can be made.

I feel as though there is a lot of pressure surrounding what your body 'should' look like. We now live in a world of filters and photoshop, so it's hard to define what is reality. However, everyone should feel happy in their own skin as no two bodies are the same, but each body is beautiful in it's own way. We should look to support and build confidence together, creating positivity and celebration of all curves, lumps and bumps.

SUMMER SKIN

Summer has finally arrived in the UK woohoo, and it looks like it's here to stay ~ hopefully! As much as I love spending time relaxing in the sunshine (need to make the most of it), it does get me thinking about the changes I need to make in my skincare routine.

SPF is important all year round, not just in the Summer months, however with the weather getting hotter and hotter we need to remember to add that extra step into our beauty routine each day. Usually in the colder/wetter months I rely on my moisturiser or foundation to provide me with sun protection on my face, as most of them now contain SPF, but in Summer I always like to put an extra layer on.

ASOS SWIMWEAR/BEACHWEAR WISHLIST

So my Summer holiday isn't actually until September this year, but obviously I'm going to be looking at all the cute swimwear coming out now because the holiday season has officially started! One of my favourite places to shop is ASOS, especially for holiday clothes and swimwear because they have such a huge range with different styles that you can mix and match...plus it means you can try on everything in the comfort of your own home rather than getting practically naked in the changing rooms!

I haven't actually bought anything yet, but I wanted to share some of the items on my 'wishlist' that I'm loving, and when it gets nearer the time to my holiday I'll *try* to whittle it down to my absolute faves. Let me know what you think!

5 CURRENT TREND FAVES

I'm back! So it's been a while since I last put up some style content on my blog, mainly because I've been super busy! I work full time, and so finding spare time during the week to shoot outfit photos when I'm not totally knackered can be difficult sometimes. Anyway... I'm currently in between jobs at the moment (will do another update soon), and so have some more free time to do blogging yay! I also lost my 'mojo' a bit last month when it came to style as well, probably because the weather can't make its mind up, and I have been lacking inspiration - however it's now back in full swing. Sometimes a break can be good for creativity and new motivation.

Anyway, I thought I'd kick off the Summer style season with my current favourite trends.

CURRENT BEAUTY FAVOURITES

Again, I thought it was about time to update you on my current beauty favourites! As I said before, I'm not going to be doing monthly favourites anymore, simply because I don't always have new things to talk about every month, and don't want to talk about products for the sake of making a post out of it. However, I do currently have some new favourites in my skincare/makeup routine which I wanted to share with you, especially as we're getting into Spring/Summer and I like to start mixing things up a little!.....(even though it's currently raining in London noooo).

STEPPING INTO SPRING

It's been almost three weeks since my last blog post which seems like forever ago, and something that has frustrated me so much because I've wanted to blog so much! I'm feeling so inspired when it comes to fashion at the moment because all the new Spring trends are coming into store and I've got so many ideas for outfits I want to shoot. However, my work schedule at the moment is very busy, and because I work different hours each week it's been really hard to find the time to blog. The past couple of weeks when I have had a spare day to do some outfit shots, the weather has not been on my side and it's either been rainy, windy or stormy which is highly annoying.

FAVOURITE FOUNDATIONS FOR OILY/COMBINATION SKIN

I've uploaded a video all about my current favourite foundations. I have got oily/combination skin, and find it quite difficult to suss out the best foundations for my skin to make sure they don't add excess oil, but still give me a radiance and healthy glow to my skin. But I think I've found some amazing ones, a mixture of high end and drugstore that suit my skin type, skin tone and different occasions!

ALL ABOUT PINK

My wardrobe is mainly made up of black, white, beige and grey, and I'm usually the type of person to stay away from colour. I just tend to stick to more neutral shades as I find them easier to wear and style and find that everything goes with everything. However, today I wanted to share with you my new love for the colour pink.

BIRTHDAY TRIP TO PARIS

At the end of last month I was lucky enough to be taken to one of my favourite cities ever, Paris. My amazing boyfriend surprised me with the trip after Christmas and I felt so so spoilt and grateful to be going. I've already uploaded a few pictures from the trip on my Instagram (@instyleofemily), but wanted to write a more detailed post on here about what we got up to. We made sure to plan out each day before the trip to make sure we made the most out of our 4 days there. I feel like we packed everything in that we wanted to do and more, so thought it might be useful to write a mini 4-day guide to Paris in case you're thinking of going.

TRAINING FOR A MARATHON

I might be completely insane, but this April I'm running the London Marathon - the actual marathon! 26.2 miles long ahhh. I am a little bit terrified, but mostly excited and hopefully it will be one of the best experiences of my life. I'm running for NSPCC which is an amazing charity that I have always thought so highly of when it comes to the amazing work they do. I know that there are thousands of charities out there, and if I could run for more than one then I definitely would, but this one in particular is one that I've always supported. They are the leading children's charity in the UK fighting to end child abuse, and help children rebuild their lives and protect those at risk. Even though this probably the biggest challenge I've taken on, it's one that I'm most proud to be doing, especially if it means it'll help make a difference.

"LIFE IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION"

I'm probably not alone in feeling as though my life isn't moving forward in any way. The weeks seem to fly by, and I feel like I'm doing the same things over and over and not achieving what I want to achieve. Social media is the devil when it comes to comparing yourself to others, because the blogosphere is so saturated with amazing creators that you somehow feel like you'll never be as good as them. Sometimes I think to myself that I should just quit blogging because 'what's the point in spending time making content when nobody really sees/reads it?' But then on the other hand, I absolutely love doing it, getting to share my passions and putting all the different elements of a post together. For me, the numbers don't even matter because I enjoy doing it regardless of who reads it, and I get so so excited when I do see that people have spent the time to take a look. However, I feel as though social media can trick you into thinking that the numbers and views are important, which is disheartening when you start to actually believe that, and realise that you're so far behind everyone else. But then I remind myself why I even started this blog.

WHAT I DO TO UNWIND

Having relaxation time is something that is really important to me. Everyone needs to find the time to unwind, clear their mind and truly relax. Sometimes it seems hard to find the time to do this when you have such a busy schedule, but even if it's just something simple like making a cup of tea and sitting down for five minutes and gathering your thoughts, it can really make a difference to your mood in a positive way.

CURRENT 5 FAVOURITE PRODUCTS

I know that I have been really bad at keeping up with monthly favourites, both on here and on my YouTube channel (which I am going to focus more on this year). So, I thought instead of promising to do monthly favourites, I would just tell you about my current favourites now and again when I have a collection of things to show. Sometimes I don't really have any new monthly favourites, so at least this way there is no pressure to find something to talk about.
Recently, there haven't really been any style favourites in particular, mainly because I've been living in jumpers and scarves, but I have got some new beauty favourites which I wanted to share with you.

NEW YEAR, NEW GOALS

I feel as though this year has been a mixture of bad and good for everyone, but as always I like to start each year with a fresh mind and new goals as it's always such a motivating time of year. I've got a very long list of goals for 2017, most of them are small and some of them are continuations from this year, but here are a few that I wanted to share with you.
What are your goals for 2017?

1) Start a blogging schedule and create more content:
As I currently work full time and have different shift patterns, it's hard to make sure that I am blogging regularly. Blogging is something that I absolutely love doing, and definitely want to make more time for it next year. I need to be more organised and plan blog posts in advance which hopefully means there will be more regular content.
