I've recently been getting into contouring a lot more than usual, even though it's something that has been popular among beauty for a while now. I thought I would invest in a contour kit because I only really have bronzers in my makeup collection that are too orange toned for defining your cheekbones etc. I read up a few reviews on different contour kits and decided that I would start off with a powder contour kit rather than a cream one, just because I feel like it would be lighter on the skin and easier to practice with whilst I'm quite new to it!

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit was the one that I decided to go for because I'd heard great things about it and the contour colours seemed to be more cool toned which would be great for defining certain areas and create a sharp look. It also includes a subtle highlight, yellow banana powder for setting your makeup and a neutral powder too, and so I thought this would be a really versatile palette that has different product types in. I got the shade 'Light to Medium' even though I have an olive skin tone, just because I prefer to use more natural shades on my skin and I've found that this suits me really well.

The texture of the powders are really buttery and creamy and are really easy to blend. I was a bit hesitant about using the darkest contour shade at first because they are highly pigmented powders, however because they blend so well you can make it look very natural on the skin. To contour I use the Real Techniques Sculpting Brush because I find that it fits perfectly underneath my cheekbone area in order to create a sharp contour and its great for blending.

I thought I'd show you before and after photos of the contour kit so that you can see how it looks, and I can really tell the difference from these photos! My cheekbones look a lot more defined and my over face shape looks sharper. I also used the yellow toned powder to set underneath my eyes and I feel like this really brightens the face.

Let me know what you think and I'd love to hear your recommendations on contouring products too!

  1. I really want to try this contour kit in the new pale colours she's brought out. I'm super pale and at the moment just use NYX blush in Taupe as it's the only contour I've tried that doesn't look too dark or dirty on me. Great post x x

    1. Yes I would highly recommend this palette to contour with because the powders are so soft and blendable so that the lines aren't too harsh! But my skin tone is medium/olive and I'm using the light/medium kit, and so I would definitely suggest to use the new lighter shades if you're paler than me!
      Thank you :) x
