WINTER STYLE ESSENTIALS

Dressing in Winter can seem really challenging sometimes, especially when the weather is so freezing that all you want to do is stay in your dressing gown. For me, it becomes harder to find a balance between dressing practically for the cold, and looking well dressed and put together. But there are a few style essentials in my Winter wardrobe which can be mixed up to create perfect, cosy day-to-day outfits, whilst still maintaining that 'well dressed' look (and not ending up looking like an eskimo).

STEPPING OUT OF STYLE

Sometimes I like to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to my style and mix things up a bit with items that I wouldn't usually go for. I have always been a 'skinny jeans' kinda girl, and never usually steer away from my trusty Topshop Joni/Jamie jeans. I know exactly how to style them and how they fit my figure, but most importantly, they make me feel comfortable. However, when I was looking for my latest pair of jeans to purchase, I wanted to try out something different from my usual.

MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR DAY OFF

Day's off can seem few and far between if you work full time like me, especially if you either work different shifts or in retail for example, where you don't get set day's off and you have to work weekends too. Today I had my first day off from work in nearly a week which got me inspired to write this post, as I always like to get the most out of my day when I'm not working, and thought I would share a few tips on how I do this. Of course, there are days when I don't want to do anything and days when I just go with the flow, but I still like to make sure I've done something at least.

SKINCARE DUO STAPLES

I think I might have written a blog post on these products in the past, however now that I've been using them every day for over six months, I thought I can now give a proper, honest review on both of them and how they've worked for me.

AUTUMN LAYERING

Something I love doing around this time of year with my style is layering. I love to be cosy and also having the option of adding or taking off layers depending on whether you're inside or outside. Layering is something that has become a big trend lately and it's a great way of getting more use out of some of your more summery wardrobe items. For example, I love wearing pretty, lace camisoles during Summer, but come the colder months they're harder to wear unless you're going out for a nice dinner or somewhere that you'll be inside the warm. However, if you pair these kind of tops with a plain t-shirt underneath, or even a thin jumper, you'll be creating a whole new outfit and look from items you already have in your wardrobe. The same can be done with dresses too and it's a great way of mixing textures, colours and prints.

10 DESTINATIONS ON MY TRAVEL WISH-LIST

As the colder weather starts to draw in and this year is soon coming to an end, I can't help thinking and planning which trips I would like to go on next year. Travelling has always been a passion of mine and I have been lucky enough to already visit some amazing countries and have incredible experiences by the age of 22.

Of course I'm not expecting to visit all of these places in the coming year, but I like to start thinking about my top 10 dream destinations to visit, as I always think it's good to set yourself goals and dream big! One of my favourite bloggers who you probably already know 'Inthefrow' did a similar post recently which definitely got me thinking about where I would like to visit if I had to narrow it down to the top 10...

CHANGING AGAIN

So I've written a few 'life update' posts before when something has either changed or theres a new chapter of my life starting, and today I feel as though it's this post covers both of those. As some of you may know, I've just graduated from university after completing a degree in Adult Nursing. I'm someone that doesn't like to quit and will persevere through something even if it's maybe not right for me or I'm not totally happy, because I like to get to the end and say I've finished.
However, back in my second year of my nurse training, I realised that this maybe wasn't the career path for me and that maybe I should quit because it wasn't what I expected. I wasn't quite sure what I didn't like about the course in particluar , but I just knew that it wasn't right for me and wasn't making me happy. Don't get me wrong, I love working with people and helping others, but just the whole job role and pressures from university made me realise that it wasn't the path I wanted to follow. After thinking about quitting for a long time, I thought that I would carry on anyway and continue the course, because even if I didn't become a nurse after university, at least I would still have a degree qualification and that counts for a lot on it's own. It also helped that I had amazing university friends and housemates supporting me through the whole time, and without them being there I definitely wouldn't have carried on.

5 AUTUMN FASHION STAPLES

Building a wardrobe of staple pieces is something that I am discovering is more important as I am getting older. I used to buy a lot of random coloured t-shirts and vibrant patterned shorts when I was a young teenager, which were only worn once for a particular occasion and then thrown to the back of my wardrobe, never to be seen again. I've realised now that this is such a waste of money, and it's much better to buy more classic, wearable items which can be worn for many occasions and styled differently to create different looks.

BOMBER DETAILS

I'm obsessed with this bomber jacket at the moment. I love the colour, the fit and mostly the detailing on the back. Back when the bomber trend started I wasn't sure whether I was going to like it or not, or whether I would be able to pull them off, but I think they are the perfect style of jacket to transition from Summer to Autumn. This one is really lightweight and comfortable to wear and adds so much detail to a plain, casual outfit.

DUNGAREE DRESS

Denim and dungarees are two of my favourite style choices and this dungaree denim dress is perfect piece for the hot Summer days. I just pair it with a plain white crop top underneath to keep it simple, and my white sliders sandals, and together it creates such an easy, relaxed and comfortable outfit. A dress like this is a staple in my wardrobe because it's so versatile and can be layered over different tops/jumpers depending on the weather.

Dress - Primark (similar here)
Top - Topshop
Sandals - ASOS
Bag - Zara
Hat - H&M (other colour here)

GOLDEN GLOW

Everybody wants to achieve that natural golden glow to their skin without looking greasy or overly shiny. I've got oily/combination skin which means that my skin tends to look a bit shiny anyway, however I still want to achieve a healthy glow to my face without adding more oil/excess shine. I've been on the search for something to add into my makeup routine to give my skin a golden glow, but a lot of the foundations/moisturisers I've tried are a bit too heavy or sticky for my skin type.

Then I came across this in Boots the other day...the L'Oreal True Match Highlight. I already own and love the True Match foundation from L'Oreal and so this caught my eye straight away. It's a liquid gold illuminator which you can add to your foundation or use as a primer to give you that natural added glow. I must admit when you swatch this on your hand it looks SO gold, which makes you worry what it's going to look like on your face, but honestly it looks amazing.

I mix a small amount of this in with my foundation or tinted moisturiser and it blends in so well on the skin to create a natural, even glow. It doesn't turn your face gold and shiny, but instead adds a radiance which I was definitely missing. You can also just add this straight onto the face as a primer or use it just on the high points of your face to enhance your highlight. It's a very versatile product and one that I'll definitely be taking on holiday with me to enhance that sun kissed look.

What are your recommendations to achieve that natural sun kissed glow?

TEXTURES

As I've always said...you can never have too many pretty white tops in your wardrobe. This one is so versatile and looks great dressed down with denim, or paired with tailored trousers or shorts for a more sophisticated look. It adds so much femininity to an outfit with the floaty cap sleeves but is also really classic with the high neck. Mixing different textures together in an outfit is something I love to do as it makes the whole look more interesting.

MOM JEANS AND NECK TIES

What I'm wearing:
Top - ASOS
Neck tie - Primark
Jeans - ASOS (similar here
Watch - Olivia Burton
Shoes - iOffer (Chanel dupes)
Sunglasses - Topshop

I've had these jeans for quite a while now but have never really got the wear out of them. I love the 'mom jean' trend and they look amazing on so many people, but I wasn't sure if I could pull them off. However, the other day I decided to customise them slightly and add rips at the knees so that they were a bit more textured and fitted in more with my own style. I'm also loving the 'Bardot' trend right now along with neck-ties, and I think they look so good paired together. Shoulders and collarbones are one of the most flattering parts to show off which is why I think so many people can pull off the 'off-the-shoulder' look.
